Plan with confidence
Scotland uses the UK Student visa route. Budget for tuition, the applicable outside-London living funds, visa charges and travel. Compare actual accommodation options in your chosen Scottish city.

Read the course’s entry criteria and published duration. Check whether your school qualification leads to direct entry or a foundation route, and what subjects the degree requires.
Compare taught and research degrees separately. Look at subject prerequisites, dissertation or project structure, academic grades and the evidence requested by the course.
Compare accommodation availability, commuting and the campus setting in each shortlisted city. Include housing for the full course period, not only the teaching months.
Use the international fee quoted for your course and intake. Do not assume Scotland’s funding arrangements for eligible local students apply to an Indian international applicant.
Scotland falls under the UK outside-London maintenance amount: currently £1,171 monthly for up to nine months where the financial requirement applies. Bank funds normally have a 28-day holding rule.
Compare the real accommodation quote with your budget. Add visa charges, the UK health surcharge, travel and initial housing costs to tuition and living expenses.
Use the specific university’s English policy. For UK degree-level study or above, a Higher Education Provider can assess English at the required B2 level.
Record the accepted evidence and any scores in your checklist before paying for a test. Previous English-medium study is useful only under a route the sponsor accepts.
After meeting the university’s conditions and sponsorship checks, use the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies for your UK Student visa application. Check financial, health and any ATAS requirements.
Apply the UK dependant rules to the exact course. A taught master’s does not generally qualify under the postgraduate dependant route for courses starting from January 2024.
The published non-doctoral duration is two years for eligible applications by 31 December 2026 and 18 months from 1 January 2027. Eligible doctorates receive three years.
Confirm the course is eligible and complete the required study in the UK. Graduate permission and a later sponsored work route are separate applications.

Your questions, answered
No. Scotland is within the UK and uses the applicable UK Student visa route.
Do not assume that. International fees and fee status are assessed by the university for your course and circumstances.
Put course duration, entry conditions, tuition, accommodation and the total study period in the same comparison.
